Venue

Golden Peacock Hotel, Lilongwe

overview

This is a 5-day training course that dwells on designing a solar PV system to meet the energy needs of health facilities. The course focuses on assessing energy demand and designing a solar PV system for a health facility. The course provides techniques for assessing energy demand, willingness to pay, modelling the solar PV generation levels to determine appropriate sizes of a solar PV plant and innovating approaches for sustaining the systems. Participants in this course therefore learn various parameters and techniques employed in modelling the size of a solar PV plant. Participants get an opportunity to visit a solar powered health facility and interact with the owners/operators.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Through successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of solarizing health facilities
  • Determine energy needs of health facilities
  • Conduct a solar PV energy resource assessment
  • Apply techniques and tools for determining an optimal solar PV system for a health facility
  • Become familiar with business and operational models for sustaining solarized health facilities
  • Be aware of common risks and challenges of solarizing health programs
